Diskeeper and Perfect disk would not install on my server. Anyone got a recommendation?

arodgers59 16th Jun 03 03:07 PM

Perfect Disk 6.0 is available. I had trouble with the install, it would always say the installer was interrupted.
Tech support sent me a file and it installed fine. It works very well. Good Luck

Nice. Could you send me that file? PM to ya.

From what I see, this is a perfectly legitimate discussion. The above had nothing to do with it.

Unless I am missing something, what is wrong with the defrag utillity built into every version of windows?

Right click a drive, properties, tools tab, defragment...

No need to install anything, worry about weather its compatible or not, etc.

I tried it and it does work but is painfully slow. My server has 9 HDDs in it and it took almost 8hrs to defrag them.

The version 6 works nicely but is a 30 day trial .

Eight hours to defrag? Leave around 30% free space on each drive. Less free space and it'll start to get painfully slow. I've got a 36 and a 70 gig RAID set and after a clean Windows 2003 install on the bootdrive and SQL Server 2000 + a bunch of DB's on the data drive it takes no more than 2 mins to defrag each drive with the Windows 2003 defragger. Shut down any apps like SQL Server first though. Remote desktop without having to install terminal services is really sweet too :)

O&O Server Edition is a very good defrag tool !
