just want to know which one everyone here would recommend. and what amount of memory. i will be getting at least 64MB.
i'm building a computer for my dad and just wondering which one. i don't know how much he is willing to spend yet, but probably nothing over $100. also, he probably won't be doing to much gaming with it. maybe some rc simulators, need for speed, maybe some other racing games. he's not into rpg's. |
You can get a decent g-force for under 60.00 CAD. I have an ATI and they can be bitchy depending on what chipset you have in the motherboard.
|
i vote for ATI ... i just have buy a Ati Radeom 9000 PRO 128MB ... ( I pay 152$ Canadian ) i really like .... I was on a Voodoo 5500 before .. big difference hein ?!
|
I vote g-force, driver wise they update frequently, and support lot of games rather the ATI with poor driver support.
|
got the FX5200 which im using on my "GAMES" machine
and it flies like f*** ! really impressed ! and it cost me about 70(sterling) :D |

Your statement may have been true at one time, but that is not the case any longer. |
I tend to agree with kamikazee here... I have an ATI Radeon 9700 Pro, and have had no problems with it. ATI's driver support has come a long way. Yes, back in the day before the Radeons, their driver support was pretty horrible - but that has changed. Couldn't be more happier with my video card.

Heh, I prefer NVIDIA myself.

-------------------------------- I use ATI myself, and it works fine for games...I *rarely* play any though. The driver's work great. Havn't had any problems. |
thanks guys.
i have an gf2 ti 64mb ddr and like it, but i don't do any heavy gaming either. play nfs:hp2 and gta: vice city every now and then, and also rct2 a little, but thats basically it for gaming. still haven't decided which one yet. |

How do you know his father does not play any games... let alone want a decent screen saver? And the word "duh" is not only innapropriate, its rude. Wise up asshole, people are only asking advice here. |
yea he just wants one that will do most things. i had an 8MB card laying around when i built my grandmother's computer and put it in hers, but it wouldn't play wheel of fortune, so i had to get a better card and it ended up being an ati rage 128 pro series (32MB). so he didn't want to get a crummy one then have to get a better one in a month or so.
here are the two i'm looking at: Code:
ATI Radeon 7500 64MB DDR 2x/4x AGP Video Card w/TV-Out, DVI, Twin-View, Retail (PowerColor) for $54.95 with free shipping. edit: ok going to get the ati since i will be getting the case from the same spot. thanks for all your replies. also, closing this its getting ordered in just a minute and before it gets out of hand. |
