hello everyone,
i couldn't find a way to enable the welcome screen yet. is it disabled and we dont how to access it. or is it completely removed in windows server 2003? thanks. :) ~*McoreD*~ |
AFAIK it is totaly removed in 2k3 server
|
thanks for the reply DoG. :)
guess what: this is what in the Help and Support Center in Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition! To protect your files by using a screen saver password Open Display in Control Panel. On the Screen Saver tab under Screen saver, click a screen saver. Select the On resume, password protect check box. If Fast User Switching is turned on, select the On resume, display Welcome screen check box. if we could enable fast user switching, somehow? |
Finally I figured out a short cut to have this. Woohoo. :P
You need Windows Server 2003 "converted" to Windows XP Professional 2003 by ntswitch Insall StyleXP and don't worry about it saying: Cannot enable under this build Go to Logons and simply turn on Welcome Screen and Fast User Switching. You are done! :) |
but does it stay turned on when you've ntswitched it back to server?
|
nope. :(
but i am happy with Windows XP Professional Version 2003. :D |
So is there a downside to switching over to the professional version?
|
there is no downside switching over to windows xp professional version 2003, *if* you really need to run windows xp but more stabler (nt version 5.2!).

If you arent interested in any of the server additions, I guess you dont lose much, but my experience with ntswitch is that it isn't the most stable thing. |
on the other hand most programs that wont allow being install on a server os will work.
|
Hi,
Yes there is a downside to using NTSwitch to convert to Windows XP Pro 2003, if your using an Evaluation version, it will eventually Lock-you-out. Cheerz :) :D ;) |

You all are nuts, after hearing all this bull shit I downloaded a copy of 2003 Ent Edt off Microsoft, wasting 2 days. And gues wat games don't run the way they should run, plz stopthis bullshit. It really isn't that stable, half the time it got hanged trying to apply the updates. Xp on the other hand works like a dream especially after the Service Pack 2

Win2K3 Server is a complete different platform, although most of it's kernel is the same as Windows XP's kernel is. But sometimes the situation demands a server os, not a workstation os. I for one am running W2K3 Server and use it as a workstation for quite a while now. I admit I don't run games, but appart from that it's the most stable version of windows I have ever ran/run. I have no problems what soever updating it, nor does it hang. Sorry what you think is bullshit is a the best Microsoft has ever offered me. Just wanted to let you know... ;) Cheers, Cacti |
