Just an idea.
I like the ability that we as members have to edit our posts as much as we wish. How about the ability to close our own thread when we feel it has outlived its time. Rather than have to ask a MOD. I have no idea if this can even be done or if others like this idea. Please comment |
It's possible, let's see what other people think about it and if it's a general yes I'll cut it on :D
|
i agree :D
|
I like the idea, it would help streamline the process and eliminate useless treads without the mods having to do all of the work.
|
Yes , I agree wih this idea, it could save the mods some work, many threads seem to stay active well past their use by date.
|
Sounds good to me.
|
Yes and no. On one hand it could be a good thing, but on the other it could be abused if the owner closed his own thread during an active discussion for whatever reason.
I personally think threads should only be closed when discussion turns against the rules or becomes abusive. Even tho a discussion might seem outdated there should be no reason for people not to append their ideas or any updates at a later date. |
How about just in selected sections.
EDIT - I do think that most of the members would use the feature wisely. For example, the feature that allows members to edit their posting without requring the posting labeled as being edited. I always thought people would change their wording and deny saying what they had previously posted. It don't seem to be the case here and I doubt there would be many problems if we were allowed to close our own threads. |
Absolutely not. This is a bad ideea.
I even don't like the function where you can edit your own post. Most of the time all this could be very nice, in the most perfect of worlds this is how things should be. As not even B1 is perfect...:) this doesn't work as exspected. The most inflammated flaming threads here has been closed by mods, but most of the time not until they really believed it was time to close to them. This will for certain be abused - abused though out of somebodies point of view, not from another. You are invovlved in your own thread and then maybe don't see things really clear. Good customs should be to read your text carefully before adding/submitting. Then face it: you have sent it and now it is there. I say: Remove ability to edit posts! Why should discussions get closed when they appear to be outlived? If they really really are outlived, then they are kinda closed as noone will reply to them... |
I just want to be able to edit the title of my post. Accidental misspelling is embarrassing and it happens occasionally, no matter how careful you are. :P
I do agree with Vinnie that it would take some pressure off of the mods, but I too fear that the feature would be abused, especially by newer people here. |

Honestly I go with Zone-MR. :) |
Our words belong to us; we only SHARE them with others...
Of course we have to let the author edit his posts; that's a issue that doesn't even need to be discussed, does it? And, unless THEY no longer want the job of monitoring the "bad" posts, then I feel the Mods do a great job is monitoring most threads here, and should be allowed to continue doing it! wase4711 |
Help - I am getting a little lost here - I believe the question is

Just a thought because that would require our current ability to edit our own threads. :P |
Agreed. The argument about editing posts has been and gone. This thread is about a user closing their own posts when said user deems them dead.
Lets not forget that even though a user closes his post it will still be possible for the posts to be reopened if their is enough interest in it or if a user closes a post mid discussion. Users would have to use their discretion and common sense, this is a community and we should all be allowed to have our say (Providing it is legal and within the rules of course :D) |
This is a tricky one  , I seem to agree with both sides.
So I will support the majority vote on this one ;) . Stumuzz. :D To be honest i've never really thought about it before. |

As with all things I say; let's give it a go. If it works out fine, good. If it is abused, just change it back. ;) Cheerz Dave B) |
Ok having read a few replys I can see valid points for both views , As DL suggessts a trial period could always be reversed if the users were abusing it. Closing a thread is not the same as deleteing it which could possibly cause some friction. As we are a freindly place let's have a vote decide and if it's too close just keep the status quo.
edited due to typo's :o |
I don't think any threads should be closed unless it breaks the rules or gets out of hand and thats a moderators decision not the person posting it.
Other than that, threads should remain open. Sometimes threads get closed too soon when someone else may have been able to make a better suggestion or a different idea. Even if the issue was resolved by the first reply you never know if it could lead to more ideas or an interesting discussion that we could all learn from. People searching older threads should also be able to post a thanks later or bump something up if it's a similar issue. Dave |
i agreed !!

if not possible how about adding some kind of check box
that when ticked the mods can find them easier. ...do I make sense, I hope so  |

AS has been stated I agree with editing as far as correcting spelling ONLY, 1 or 2 word limit only.
I like to read some of the post for my own self learning and if a post was able to be closed by the poster then there may not be enough replies to deem it a real good answer. I think that any time a post has been eduted there should be to words edited by who ever edited it. This is just my 2 pennies worth |
