I settled on Norton Firewall, but have ZoneAlarmPro 3.1.395 on another on another. What other firewalls you guys using. Opinions?

At one time I would have said Agnitum Outpost. It *is* very promising with a unique plug-in architecture and for most people it runs really well, BUT they have been promising a version 2 for over 4 months now. It is quite late and the people that ARE having problems were forced to wait because they started recoding from scratch to achieve a better code base and they have not even been giving updates on how the development is going on the new version. When Version 2 is out, I think it will be really good. It better be, because I am one of the people who are having problems. I'm going to be pissed if it isn't.

i'm using Kerio WinRoute v5 beta RC5 ;)
it's very complete n will b my choise when it cames final :D
Kerio also have a Personal firewall that's free for non-comercial use, still in beta release also, but it works with 'sand boxes' around apps n such, wich i think is a pain...
my 2 cents:D
cheers :)

I run ZA 3.0.081 and have a hardware LinkSys Router firewall. Used to use NIS '03, but found it to be too much of a resource hog. ZA isn't much better, but gotta have something. Also, didn't like how Norton would let things out, was harder to customize.
Black Ice was a POS.

Kerio Personal ......now for the last 12 months, does its job and stops progs calling home, no conflicts whatsoever, why should I try anything else........oh and only 1.56mb on disc.........lovely :)

moiself 10th Feb 03 01:33 AM

Sygate's

best & most effective & less intrusive and bossy i've ever tested...... and compatible with the other stuff i run...

one day i'll uninstall everything and wii give a go at Agnitium too...

rikytik 10th Feb 03 02:12 PM

Isn't Kerio an offshoot of Tiny Personal Firewall? Anybody made any comparisons there?

JacKDynne 10th Feb 03 04:51 PM

I use a cisco pix 505 + norton and black ice :)

I used to have Norton Internet Security 2003, but not now, as I decided not to use any damn Fire Wall. It was annoying to me.

adams 16th Feb 03 02:53 AM

i've got a hardware firewall (di-604 router). but what firewall is the best at not allowing apps to phone home?

Quitting Norton I can understand... but not using a firewall at all? Well, I guess you aren't as paranoid as I am.

Esprit 16th Feb 03 03:15 AM

Kerio Personal Firewall 3.0 Beta 5 is by far my choice.
Simple to use, provides total stealth for grc test, is free, better than the regular Kerio product in my opinion, only 4 megs in size and does the job well.
I have tried ZA, LooknStop, Norton, Sygate, etc. and have happily settled on Kerio PF 3.0 Beta 5.
who cares if it is a beta.....it works flawlessly.

Just my humble opinion....

PS. And easy to uninstall, not like some other horror stories.
