Sorry dude, don't know what's wrong, but I do know a way to bypass this problem;

Simply boot a Win98/Win95 floppy in the Vitual PC, and load some IDE CD-Rom drivers. FDisk and format virtual partition, and copy the Win95 folder to that partition and your on your way.

I do have to agree that it's eird it can't boot the CD-Image or even the CD.

I tired the book disc of windows 95 with a CD in the cd rom of windows 95, but still no luck, would it work with virtual pc 4, and does virtual pc 4 support windows xp? as I' running windows xp.

Cactus 19th Jan 03 04:09 PM

Did the boot floppy contain a cdrom driver in the config.sys?

Version 4 does support XP as the host, but it's probable that you CD won't work in 4 if it doesn't work in 5,

DaMaster 19th Jan 03 05:58 PM

Theres no config.sys in the boot floppy.

Cactus 19th Jan 03 06:17 PM

OK,

Download the http://www.xs4all.nl/~cactus/BetaONE/CDDRIVERS.ZIP , and extract it to the floppy.

Create a config.sys on the floppy with the line DEVICE=CDROM.SYS /D:MSCD000 and an autoexec.bat with the line MSCDEX.EXE /D:MSCD000 /L:E

after booting that floppy you should have a E: drive, witch is yoy CD-Rom

Hopes this helps

DaMaster 19th Jan 03 07:45 PM

Still no work.

Cactus 19th Jan 03 09:01 PM

Any messages from the CDDROM.SYS or MSCDEX.EXE?

DaMaster 19th Jan 03 09:43 PM

Nope. just didn't read it.

What do you mean DaMan?

DaMaster 20th Jan 03 08:59 PM

Virtual PC doesn't read of the floppy, even tho i set it to capture floppy drive.

If you know that the CD is bootable, hit delete to go into the BIOS when you start up the blank virtual PC, and make sure it is set to boot from the CD drive.

I seem to remember this is not set by default

DaMaster 21st Jan 03 04:11 PM

I pressed delete, it doesn't go to BIOS, just has a blanks screen as normal.

Still don't work and when I click on start up for it to load it doesn't say "No OS found message" and just goes straight to the blank screen.

Gfields 23rd Jan 03 10:24 AM

You have to be pretty quick off the mark to get into the BIOS, as the emulated POST is very quick.

Just keep presseing delete as it starts up

DaMaster 24th Jan 03 07:03 PM

Done that a few times to, BIOS still won't load up in Virtual PC.

war59312 24th Jan 03 07:52 PM

Try uninstalling Virtual PC and reinstalling it. Then just try to go into the bios after you created a new pc again.

Just keep pushing delete like already stated right from the get go. Should get the screen i already posted.

Kinda of strange.

cya,
Will

Gfields 25th Jan 03 04:22 AM

Connectix have a pretty active forum. Why not give that a try?

If you can't get to the BIOS you must be doing something wrong.

war59312 showed the BIOS screen. I haven't worked out how to do that yet, but if he'd showed the boot page, you would see that the primary boot device is the hard drive.
I don't think this is saved between sessions either, so you need to set this to CD any time you want to boot from a CD.
