I have heard that KaZaa is dangerous to download files music from,
i have heard of people getting fines $4000.00 plus for downloading these files i dont know if this is true????.jtk |
Lol. Every illegal stuff are dangerous. System protection-wise, I have heard you can get viruses infected via KaZaA. Personally I don't use Kazaa now. :)
|
All peer to peer programs are dangerous :o
But if you have the good tools, the danger is reduce ;) |
Windows XP is DANGEROUS! :D
Now, about Kazaa, if you store banking information on your PC you should not use ANY P2P software. Do you bank on line? If you do, MS Messenger is just as dangerous as Kazaa. Fines? Not realy. Some record companies are trying to get permission to sue people who HOST music files but so far nobody has been fined for downloading files. I use Kazaa Lite 2.02 all the time and have had NO problems other than some 'fake' files. I use Kazza to listen to new music because Radio and MTV SUX!!!!!!!!! }---:) |
Is there anyway to use p2p and online banking on same machine???jtk
|
I pay my bills and stuff, and I also have KaZaA. I haven't got any problems yet though. But now I feel it is dangerous.
@jtk: have a dual boot. j/k. :D |
Useing P2P software such as KaZaa you specify a folder you share from and only this folder folders (these folders are on my G: drive) my banking info is on the C: root and password protected with 2 passwords how is it dangerous????.jtk
|
In Denmark someone got a fine, but they ended up not having to pay.
Now to Kazaa. Kazaa is spyware and should generally be avoided. Kazaa lite on the other hand is a bit better, since atleast its no spyware. Viruses and fake files floarates on most common p2p networks. therefore, eMule/overnet/edonkey on the other hand, got dozens of sites getting good releases and sharing them on p2p. You can reach this files by using so called ed2k links, which will make emule/overnet/edonkey download the file you requested. Sites of interest for this would be emule-project.net - emule client, best client for the edonkey network. sharereactor.com good site with lots of ed2k links that can be used with eMule. - note: mod/admins please dont delete/edit this, as sharereactor isnt hosting any illegal files. |
I just got emule and am going to give it a spin. Similar to edonkey and Ive had some luck with getting stuff with it but I prefer to share files over ftp sites. Ive heard some bad stuff about kazaa also
|
Yea I've gotten about 5 virus so far with Kazza lite. Even though .bat, .exe, etc. are disabled. :(
|
I use kazaa lite on one comp and my family has another where we take care of financial needs. I have gotten viruses from kazaa lite but they were immedately recognized by nav so I didn't have any major problems with kazaa.
|
I use WinMX and have not yet got a virus. NAV with NIS and current updates. I've been happy.
|
Only if your parents catch you downloading them naughty pics of nakid ladies (or men) wearing nothing but their birthday suits, and exposing their secret gardens while they play bouncy bouncy........use file guard :)
|
billibiker u're a naughty boy! I use kazaa lite and i got a few viruses which were recognized by NAV. Problem is, if the infected file is an incomplete file, sometimes it cannot be repaired, so u've wasted ur time
|
personally i like winmx, no probs...
|
I use Kazaa lite and e-mule. Keep the firewall/trojan/virus software upto date and you should be ok. As for banking I just make sure that nothing else is running before I log on. As i'm a multi-millionaire (lol) I do worry a little more about these things and do have to make sure all those 0's are in the right place.
Anyway, i've had virus's before and I expect to get more in the future. Where would we all be without all those stories of the day our nmachines got wiped out by this or that virus. |
When you install Kaza or most if not all p2p programs they will install adware or spyware , including trojans and keystroke software on your machines . Ya have to be crazy to bank online or use credit cards online if ya have installed a p2p program . Some will let you uninstall the spyware and still use the program but most will not as this is how they make their cash, selling your online info to retailers.
Their is an exceptional article in one of the pc mags , I will see which one and post it which outlines what is installed (spyware) and which can be uninstalled without disabling the program . |
I use Kazaa and haven't had any problems, certianly no money missing from my bank account. Used in conjunction with a good firewall, AV and something like Adaware or Search and Destroy it should be OK. Not heard of fines being issued, although if you are caught for having illegal material on your Hard Drive then that is an offence.
|
But it seems that companies are monitoring emule and kazaa now to see what you're sharing and get in contact with your isp when you're sharing soemthing they don't like and them your isp can warn you or cut you off.
I have just been in trouble for this |
Good syte to test your computer for spyware and the such is
/http://www.pcpitstop.com/ Run the full test to see whats telling on ya!! Then get rid of the prgram. |
Winmx is actually my favorite for music
|
Read Italiano's post in Front Page News (p2p safety)
http://www.betaone.net/forums/index....T&f=59&t=23498 It's a question of snoopers checking what you've got in your shared directory, not necessarily hacking your computer. In otherwords, the DMCA issues. |
I dont care for kazza myself, too many fake files, edonkey and overnet p2p programs are very unreliable it seems. I am really interested in ftp transfers but i have no idea of how this is accomplished, (finding site locations etc..) if anyone has any tips please let me know (email), so far all i have is ftp voyager and thats as far as ive reached.
thanks :) |
