I haven't received an e-mail but it's there in black and white on the homepage.

Just had a look and it says the service costs $14.95 per annum. Before I buy does anyone know if there is an alternative freebie that does the same job?

I actually prefer no-ip . if you want to spend some money, you can have no-ip direct a domain to your own server at home ;)

Well, I haven't recieved any mail yet either...
And the timeframe he operate with, to re-register / pay ?
Why cant we do it right NOW ?

The only reason for me to eventually stick to them, is my mailserver.
I would hate to change that one.. :(
Even my NO-IP mail domain uses that MX record as referance.
I could live with DNS2GO's somewhat unstable services, as long as it was for free,
but paying for it ? Then they have to garantue better stabillity.

You can try this page for a few alternatives http://noeld.com/services.htm.
The dns updater available here supports these. Don't know about reliability or continuing freeness.

It's the same with many "free" services. Get you hooked, then add a fee

FreeUS 17th Sep 02 02:26 PM

well... We have to start to get used to pay for every service on inet... thats are really bads news... that corrupt the original spirit of the internet...

Here's what my notice says
Our online subscription process will be in place September 24, 2002. It will be available at http://dns2go.deerfield.com/purchase.

If you haven't got an email you might have got a little signal in the dns2go-icon in the tray. If so you can follow the directions and finally you are personally informed about the new policy.

And how should one feel about this? Well, I guess there really aren't anything such as free stuff. Somewhere somebody pays something. This time it is Deerfield that has figured out that their service cost more than they calculate to get back (mostly by means of goodwill).

I'm not really sure about my own feelings here. I sometimes tend to long for the old days when there was pics, no java, no flash and no ads at the Net. Was it better then? I'm not sure.

Oh well.

i don't think its a question of content that makes the net better, but rather the economy. Look at the 90s...everything was thriving. The net was unregulated, there were tons of free services, and much more. Now, many companies have gone out of business, and some are close to doing so. Free services are rapidly disappearing, and people are predicting the day when we say "remember when there used to be freedom of speech on the 'net?"

Sad times. Maybe some miracle will come along and save us,and the net...
