OXP SP2 Integrated Administrative Install Point "Quick & Easy"
Download the administrative sp2 update from Microsoft: http: //download.microsoft.com/download/officexpstandard/sp/oxpsp2/w98nt42kmexp/EN-us/oxpsp2a.exe 1) Insert your original XP CD. Start>Run>SETUP.EXE /a 2) Enter the req. information (Company Name and Key) 3) Click next and choose C:\Office as the install point (This just extracts the CD to this folder) 4) Extract the file you downloaded oxpsp2a.exe to C:\Office 5) Start>Run>msiexec /p c:\office\MAINSP2ff.msp /a c:\office\proplus.msi SHORTFILENAMES=TRUE /qb /L* c:\office\sp1Log.log *Note: you may have either proplus.msi or setup.msi in your files change the run line accordingly 6) Start>Run>msiexec /p c:\office\Owc10SP2ff.msp /a c:\office\owc10.msi SHORTFILENAMES=TRUE /qb /L* c:\office\owc10.log 7) Delete: MAINSP2ff, Owc10SP2ff, sp1Log, owc10 on the latter 2 log files you may want to confirm that the last line reads "Installation operation completed successfully" to be sure that all went well. 8) Burn the contents of C:\Office on a CD label it anything I chose OXPSP2 9) You now have a integrated OXP SP2 CD no serial req. for installation. Update Publisher XP to SP2 follow the same basic steps and in step 5 replace proplus.msi with pub.msi Start>Run>msiexec /p c:\publisher\MAINSP2ff.msp /a c:\publisher\pub.msi SHORTFILENAMES=TRUE /qb /L* c:\publisher\sp1Log.log SKIP step 6 for pub Just installed it on my test box, install went perfect, runs perfect every app is SP-2 New SP-2 Version Numbers: Access: 10.4302.4219 Excel: 10.4302.4219 FrontPage: 10.4128.4219 Outlook: 10.4219.4219 PowerPoint: 10.4205.4219 Word: 10.4219.4219 Last edited by pcservicetech at Aug 21 2002, 05:20 PM |

Thanks for the post. Will try it tomorrow. Cheerz Dave B) |
Works like a charm! Thanks for this. I had to copy the contents of office cd1 to my h/d and then continue with step 4 to continue the process. Neither setup.exe /a or setuppls.exe /a worked.

Yes I used the original Corp CD intead of updateing the slipstreamed sp1 that should work however, I opted just start over fresh since sp2 has all the previous updates included.

I am having problems with slipstreaming my Publisher CD! Everytime...I get this message about me not having the right to do an administrative deal...(Note: Only during the "Start>Run>SETUP.EXE /a" part) What version do I need?

I don't know what other people will tell you, but this is what I did, BaBa420. I copied/pasted all the contents of my publisher cd onto my c drive (c:\publisher). Them I went to step 4 and extracted the file oxpsp2a.exe to c:\publisher
Of course I then used this for step 5: Start>Run>msiexec /p c:\publisher\MAINSP2ff.msp /a c:\publisher\pub.msi SHORTFILENAMES=TRUE /qb /L* c:\publisher\sp1Log.log Tutorial is pretty clear as to the last steps involved. Like I said, this is what worked for me. I had to use this method for office cd 1 as well, because my office xp sp1 cd wouldn't let me do step 1 the way I was instructed to. Others on here may have a better way to resolve your problem. Just my $.02 Last edited by MinnesotaKid at Today at 4:28 am |

Why is it that when one tries to update Office XP to SP2 using the office update site, one is reminded to update the programs to SP1 first? Or am I too dumb to read the fine print? B) |
Microsoft site says you need to have SP1 installed for SP2 so do we need to slipstream a Office XP SP1 CD first or can we just slipstream SP2 directly to the original Office XP CD? It seems from the above posts that you can do it, but the question is will the newly created CD have the SP1 updates also? I guess the simple question is, "Does SP2 include SP1, or not?". Going from what it says on the Microsoft site, it seems SP2 does not include SP1. To quote the Microsoft site "SP2 includes all changes since SP1" this seems to suggest that SP2 does not include SP1.
Wow that's a lot of questions asking the same very thing. lol Anyhow you know what I mean. So does anyone have a conclusive answer to this? |
Based on my research and from my own experience of installing a slipstreamed Office XP SP2 I think the answer to my earlier question is, that SP2 includes SP1. I further confirmed this by running Office Updates from the Microsoft site which reported that there were no updates required by my installation of Office XP. Also upon checking what all updates my system already had, the Microsoft site reported that both SP1 and SP2 were already installed.

PS: This is a tutorial I have written or more appropriately re-written from information gathered from several sources. When I was doing my research to slipstream an Office Cd for myself I came accross several tutorials and faqs but all of them left me with a few questions, so I decided to take the info from them all and recompile it as what one might term as a 'How to make a slipstreamed Office XP - SP2 CD for dummies'. Hope this helps. Last edited by Sanjay at Oct 20 2002, 11:54 PM |
