Internet Explorer 7 Beta 1 - First Impressions

Happy to see Tabbed Browsing is finally implemented. PNG Transparency too.

Some few things. http://www.csszengarden.com/ still renders badly. (try selecting a word, holding your mouse button down, move the mouse and you will end up selecting few paragraphs (or the whole page) at once)
File/Edit/etc menus are in the most inconventient place ever.

How menu is locked and cannot be moves is really annoying.

Currently it is like this:
  1. Back|Forward|Address|Search
  2. Tabs
  3. File|Edit Menus
I want it as
  1. File|Edit Menus
  2. Back|Forward|Address|Search
  3. Tabs

You have oth right!
After 2 days of uses with this new IE7, i really hate '' How menu is locked and cannot be moves is really annoying. '' to McoreD!
I also so hate the Google search bar already installed with, can i choose what i want !!!!

Before I try to install this version, can I remove it after and go back to the version 6 ?

Thanks

Alpine 29th Jul 05 06:44 PM

i really don't know, i know, hope this work!
Go in '' add or remove programs ''
Then, Choose,
'' ADD/REMOVE WINDOWS COMPONENTS''
and then click on Internet explorer!

But bfore install IE7, don't forget to dl IE6

Yes you can remove after install. Not under remove windows components though. Just normal add/remove appz. Make sure updates are enabled. Scroll to very button of window and its under windows xp updaters or whatever its called. Already uninstalled myself from main pc and just running in virtual pc for now.

Well that would be:

http://web.archive.org/web/200411270...ie6selecta.php

Well I never see this bug again thanks to Ad Muncher. :)

I use it to add javascript to every page:

Quote:

if (window.createPopup && document.compatMode && document.compatMode=="CSS1Compat") { document.onreadystatechange = onresize = function fixIE6AbsPos() { if (!document.body) return; if (document.body.style.margin != "0px") document.body.style.margin = 0; onresize = null; document.body.style.height = 0; setTimeout(function(){ document.body.style.height = document.documentElement.scrollHeight+'px'; }, 1); setTimeout(function(){ onresize = fixIE6AbsPos; }, 100); } }

Thanks Will. I didn't know it was such a common problem. It doesn't happen to every webpage but for some like cssgarden.

Oh and try http://www.webstandards.org/act/acid2/test.html
Pretty tough one for all the browsers. ;)

wase4711 30th Jul 05 01:21 AM

yes, uninstall it through the Control panel/add remove programs, show updates....

Boy, MS really released a stinker with this browser....

Anyone else having problem with the MS update page not rendering correctly?
Kind of funny how MS own page is not rendering to well

I notice that the side bar disappear randomly when i check for updates
the update show and then after a few second the whole sidebar goes bye bye. (see attached image)

another issue is that my Internet security keep resetting to custom when i set it to medium..... not sure why

wase4711 31st Jul 05 06:25 PM

yep, sony, I had the same thing...
I removed that worthless beta off my PC, and IE 6 works with no probs...

I'll wait for the next release to try IE 7 again, but for now, its a hunk of garbage...

Thx for confirm it,
removed it myself, not that impressed so far, Firefox is still way ahead in functionality.

THere really isn't a point.. it asks for the genuine check.. as well as we al know that the browser isn't up to par... I'll stick with the fast loading ie6 for now..
