Normally,

I use folder match and synchronise my 2 folders xxxxxxapplication data xxxxxxx local settings etc..........But I can't see them in my inbox :(

Bads 19th Jan 05 09:35 PM

All my messages are here :

G:\Windows 18 janvier\Me\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{EEE2367C-413F-40BC-A73A-2F67B39CD788}\Microsoft\Outlook Express

I copy them to here :

C:\Documents and Settings\Me\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{C689F5D1-B2C7-434E-849C-7A2CF41642E1}\Microsoft\Outlook Express

But I don't see them in outlook

Not sure about "express" but with "outlook" you're supposed to export/save them as .pst files. After the format you then import the .pst's. Have you tried to "import" the files on your G drive?

I think the .pst file is only for Outlook, not for Outlook express :(

You still might try to "import" the files instead of copying them? I don't use either one so I'm not sure how to do it.

Good luck!

You can either import them using the OE import feature of you can tell OE to change the default folder to a different drive. I keep all my emails and documents on a seperate drive, when i reinstall i use the maintainance feature of OE to use the other drive as a mail store folder.

Thanks DoG,

I change my folder to the location where all my messages are but I don't see them in OE :(

@Bads - you changed the location of the Store Flder (Tools/Options/Maintence)
but did you import the messages ( Files/Import/Messages/OE6/Then import from OE6 store Directory?

Will's Post:

Hey,

Or if u just have all the files themseleves then u just copy to:

%UserProfile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\Something here\Microsoft\Outlook Express

Read that ok have to find out what the something here part is...

And then in outlook express u do File > import > messages. And select outlook express 6 and correct idenity and should restore ok.

Yes Richard,

This is what I do :) But outlook import just the basic folders

Not all my other folders :(

war59312 21st Jan 05 02:11 AM

Um yeah that should have worked. Very odd. :(

richardc2000 21st Jan 05 02:54 AM

If you are sure that in the next window after the one I have posted that you are clicking
on all the subfolders to import then you could just copy your Store Folder to another location and go through the import messages again. If that doesn't work- delete the basic folders and let OE rebuild itself but be sure to have a backup of all the folders you wish to keep.

This is not the first time I do that Richard, but this time, this is not working :(

I delete the outlook folder, let the program build another one and I copy all my messages in the folder.

But when I click to import my mail, I see only what is on the picture :o

Is it possible to import mail from Outlook express to Outlook ?

richardc2000 21st Jan 05 07:31 AM

And I supposed you have tried making a brand new store folder and trying to import
ALL not selected folders from thepresent folder to a new one.

Hello Richard,

Check the message error I receive :o

richardc2000 21st Jan 05 08:27 PM

Yep - that is why I mentioned copying the folder to another spot then importing the messages from there - you can delete this folder afterwards. The message is saying that OE is open and as a result you Store Folder is open so you can't import from the open folder to the stored folder as they are the same. You should be able to import ALL the folders from the copied ones providing that the none of the files are messes up, which could be the case.

My personal choice for a new store folder would be something like
D:\oe messages bads
1 -create this folder
2- point OE to the folder
3-import NOT copy messages to D:\oe messages bads
N.B. somewhere along the line you have to reboot for the messges to be
copied over.

if this works - you can change it to whatever and whereever you wish
the idea of using D:\ is that when you reformat C:\ your messges are SAFE
Mine have been on D:\ through at least 6 formats of C:\

Hi Richard,

If I point OE to this folder, I got the same message because I'm in Outlook :(

richardc2000 22nd Jan 05 01:01 AM

Quote:

1 -create this folder
2- point OE to the folder
By this I mean change the Store Folder

Bads 22nd Jan 05 02:04 AM

I think that it is not changing the folder.dbx ?

richardc2000 22nd Jan 05 03:10 AM

if you have done what I hae suggested and rebooting hasn't changed the store folder, I don't know what to suggest. I am not sure whether System Restore has anything to do with it but I would turn it off just in case. Other than that I don't know what to say - sorry.

Bads 22nd Jan 05 03:41 AM

Yes,

This is changing the store folder richard. But I don't see my old mails :(

I have over 200 megs of email to restore

I have only one account for windows :o Can this be the problem ?

I'm the admin always when I log to my PC, in the past, I had an Admin Account and one for me :)

richardc2000 22nd Jan 05 04:04 AM

I can't remember if there is a limit to OE importing or not
Here is a long comment on a similar problem

I will explain my method tomorrow after finishing the restoration of my mail :D

Now it's time to go to the bed.
