I'm looking for a printer that has great quality and big enough to print poster size pics so I wont have to go out and pay to get a pic blown up. I asked the same question on another board and its Epson vs. HP.

What do you all think

Both the HP Deskjet 840 And 845C Are excellent for this, as are the Epson 890 Colour Inkjet and the Epson Photo 810. The epsons are more expensive (with some suspect software i found) But the quality and speed of print is quicker. The ink is also a lot cheaper on the epson's than the HP's (Half the price for the 890 compared to either HP)
All are good printers, if you can afford the extra go for an epson- simply because photo printing takes a hell of a lot of ink and you will save on the long run.

a great feature of the HP's that Epson's don't have is..
When you change the HP's print cartriges you get a new set of print heads. The Epson's are just ink pots, so if you happen to get some crap on you print heads ie) dust, hair etc.. It is generally alot easyer to get cleared up w/the HP. If the after running the "clean the print cartridge routine" in both the printers dosn't do the trick, with the HP you can just load a new cartridge. With the Epson you have troubles.

HP is the only way to go with printing... The turn on/turn off time until ready to print is all that's worth in getting a HP over Epson....

In my experience, Epsons have better photo quality than HPs. If you want really good photo quality, go with Epson (along with quality paper). If you want good everything else, go with HP.

Do the right thing

Unless you spend hours comparing print quality side-by-side, just buy in your price range.
They are so close, one has to be a nut or a real expert.

I had an Epson Docuprint (b&w). When Windows 2000 came along, Epson wasn't interested in bothering to do some work on software updates. They finally bought the printer back off me. The Customer Service was great for me, but the Technical Support was so bad I won't buy another Epson.

i only buy cannons but if i had to choose between hp and epson it would be hp. hp seems to have better quality even though around here they are a little bit more.

Haven't done poster printing, but I've owned Epson, Canon and HP's. HP always gave me the sense of quieter more reliable functioning. I do a lot of 4x6 photo printing with my 970C and find it excellent.

HP ALL THE WAY-I WORK ON THIS STUFF EVERY DAY-HOSERRED-YOU ARE CORRECT - PRINTHEADS CLOG EVENTUALLY-THEN YOUR TOSSING YOUR EPSON OR CANON IN THE TRASH :D

If you check some of the online reviews I think that you will agree that the Epson is by far the best. I have an Epson Photo 870 and couldn't be more pleased. I print a lot of photos and as already noted a big part of a quality print is the paper. I've found with Epson you are better off with their paper. With a 2 meg camera I can print 8x10s that look as good at any regular picture. B)

I totally agree unless you have had experience with an epson then you're in for a whole new exeprience it is just to messy when you have to clean the print heads on an epson with hp just replace the cartridge and you get a whole new print head that is the reason why the hp ink cartridge is a little moore on the expensive side because the ink cartridge is integrated into print head so go HP Dude

HP is king when it comes to printers. Epson is cheaper both with price and quality!
