Saddam Hussein reportedly arrested
Sun 14 December, 2003 10:27

TEHRAN (Reuters) - Former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein has been arrested, an Iraqi Kurdish representative in Iran says, but the U.S. Defence Department says it can not confirm the report.

"I confirm that Saddam has been arrested," Nazem Dabag, representative in Iran of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), told Reuters on Sunday.

The official Iranian news agency IRNA quoted PUK leader Jalal Talabani as saying that Saddam had been captured in his home town of Tikrit.

"The American forces in Tikrit announced that Saddam was arrested on Sunday. The Americans said that they will announce the news officially in the next few hours," IRNA quoted Talabani as saying.

The news agency report was from Qasr-e Shirin in Iran across the border from Iraq. A Talabani aide said the Kurdish leader was in Tehran on his way to France.

The U.S. Defence Department said it could not confirm the report. Washington has made Saddam number one on its list of 55 most-wanted Iraqis, and placed a $25 million (14 million pounds) reward on his head.

U.S. officials had said Saddam, 66, had eluded American troops by moving every few hours, probably in disguise and aided by members of his clan.

The capture of Saddam would be a major morale boost for U.S. troops in Iraq, who have been under daily attack from shadowy guerrillas, some of whom they believe may have been directed by the former president from hiding.

A U.S.-led coalition toppled Saddam in April. His arrest would be a boost for U.S. President George W. Bush, whose campaign for re-election next year has been imperilled by setbacks and casualties in Iraq.

Only the Iraqi people, who have suffered since 1979 under this madman, can stand in judgement of him

Good to see you wake up GSD. I thought you should have some truths to tell us in the thread "The Prez--up For Re-election?*". Lol.

So, when he bombed the Kurds with WMD bought from US, it means that the Iraqi people should judge the Americans responsible for this? (As should they do for the US refusing to stand up for the proposed UN resolutions against Saddam in the 80īs, or...) And that everything went wrong after WW2? And that the ongoing tribunals after the terrible actions taken place in former Yougoslavia are held at the wrong place? And what do you think about the US demanding US personel should be immune to any accuses regarding criminal actions during war/peace missions?

To me an international court seems a better place. After all he has committed crimes not only affecting Iraq, but also the Kurdish people and the people of Kuwait and Iran (and, still some say, Americans and others in the Twin Towers).

Forget The Hague, Let the Iraqi people have him and take care of him just like they did in Romania to both President Caucescu and his wife: Firing Squad! And videotape it! Justice Served.

unicorn 14th Dec 03 07:45 PM

The American Way? Justice served...

Romania didn't start any wars. Here it is not only the Iraqi people that has suffered. Another situation. Don't you see that?

Then whatever happens I must say I'm very content with the fact that Saddam got caught - it should make everything easier in Iraq. At least I hope so.

war59312 14th Dec 03 08:12 PM

I say we give him a trial in USA. Only true fair trial in my book. :P

Anyways, yea about time. He's lucky I'm not the one who caught him though. I probably would have shot him on sight. ;)

Anyways, no one has the right to judge anyone yet every person on this earth does it every day. Me included. :) So I guess we are all evil in our own little ways.

But yea glad he will get what's coming to him. I think we should just shot him in the head and through is body into the fire. That is after he is proven quitly in the USA courts. We should just put him out of his misery. Don't stoup to his level. Sure a lot of people wish to torture him like he did to so many people. But that's just wrong.

But yea I'm glad Bush got his man. :P BUSH BUSH BUSH BUSH

That is why they are doing DNA tests on him to prove that it is in fact him and not a double.

I would say let the people of Iraq decide his fate... After all, they were the ones who suffered under his ruling... I say send him to the firing squad!

Stringent 14th Dec 03 09:38 PM

How do they know its HIS DNA though they have as a referance?

MinnesotaKid 14th Dec 03 09:50 PM

300,000

To those who want him brought to the US.

300,000

That's at LEAST how many Iraqis were butchered and are buried in mass graves throughout Iraq.

300,000

Go tell the relatives of those folks that WE think he should be tried in OUR country.

Give me a break! Give the Iraqi people the respect and dignity they deserve and let him face judgement THERE.

All in all, not a bad Christmas gift from the government/intelligence/and troops of the USA! Hope the -ucker burns in hell.

MNKid

By the way, if the economy holds up, Bush just won the election.

They have hair samples from his palace - one way to do DNA testing... besides, they have his medical documents...

doder 14th Dec 03 11:06 PM

to quote an Iraqi friend of mine, "25 million Iraqi's were reborn today".

to quote an old west texas saying ," give him a fair trial and then hang him".

war59312 15th Dec 03 02:37 AM

Hanging is agaisnt the law expect maybe in texus. Cant remember. I know at least one state still has hanging and firing swaud in the books but has never been carried out for a long time. Just cant remember. Go look it up. At least it was true two years ago. Cause I did a report on in 12th grade.

But I disagree. Think the usa is the only "state" that can give him a fair trial. Least bias in my book. Then again I only like the USA. lol :P ;) :D :o   <_<

Stringent 15th Dec 03 01:39 PM

I dont think he should be tried in his country. He should be brought somewhere else. I think there will be an assatiantion attempt on him to make him look like a Martyr or something to his cause. He of course can be tried by the new Iraqi government.

I don't think he should be killed. To easy IMO, although he deserves death.

Thanks SlickVic78, good point there.

KingCobra 15th Dec 03 11:10 PM

I agree with what I heard on the radio today. He should get a trial in Iraq and then be put to death. If he's not tried in Iraq and put to death there for all the people to see they will never get true closure. Plus, his followers with think someday he will rule again.

Edit - Time to move this thread. :bye:

war59312 16th Dec 03 12:55 AM

Yea, if he gets back into rule some how. Oh shit he escapes in nine days, I have a bad feeling. :P

Then I will personally hunt his ass down and blow him high into the sky. ;)

The Have the DNA from Uday and Qusay Hussein( spelling) His sons so it is not hard to do DNA Paternity test with almost 100% accuracy in a relatively short time.

All I can show is this...

disarmUSA 6th Jan 04 04:28 AM

His arrest my be a fictitious temporary moment of relief, but it foretells the coming out of the truth, that will rightly put the the USA on trial for its injustice to humanity with its bullying stand-over tactic methods, and the world who has suffered because of that to get the justice they never ever thought of receiving from this menace to the world, the USA is.

The US political administration is greatly far more evil than the regimes of Saddam Hussein and other so called dictators. The Bush war machine has managed to brainwash the world into accepting their point of view as the only point of view. Conspiracies such 9/11, Afghanistan campaign where more people died as of direct US bombings than the total of deaths of 9/11 (Taliban and OBL were on the CIA pay list during the Soviet/Afghan war), and is the biggest lie perpetrated on humanity being blamed on an innocent man, and the Iran/Iraq war where the USA was supplying WMD to both sides. Put Bush on trial for 9/11.

Many many more acts of terror committed by the USA over a century and 4 years will come to light. The truth is out there, the truth will come out, and Justice will be served like a hot dinner.

I am deeply deeply saddened by what is going on with the capture of Saddam, it's a Media Circus, the only reason USA went into the war with Iraq was not because of the assuring existence of non-existing WMD but merely a major publicity campaign acting as a cover to slowly but surely conquer the entire middle east’s oil reserves, peoples and nations in one big gulp, also exercising a bored army. Killing people in Iraq seems to be a method of tension relief for George W Bush. When will we be relieved when W is taken out for good? Bush is Public Enemy Number 1. So people lets put out this cunt of a "Bush" fire.

Why won't the USA disarm itself of SUPER WMD it has possessed for decades, also disarming real rogue nations such as Israel, and Britain (The sole two causes of the entire middle-east's conflicts and divisions drawn along British instated colonial lines (Kuwait, Iraq, Palestine, Jordan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and other gulf nations), and Israel that doesn't adhere to numerous multiple UN Security Council resolutions that had been passed since 1948, I sense a double standard when dealing with Arabs and USA's allies. Why won't Israel sign the nuclear non-proliferation treaty, and dismantle the nuclear and ballistic missile weapons it posses that were directly passed on it by the USA.
