Well I'm finally looking for a new motherboard.

What mother board should I get?

I want to be able to use my P3 600mhz cpu, but be able to upgrade to at least a 1.7ghz P4. Right now I'm just using old pc133 memory. I would like a mother board that is faster. I will need to buy memory for it as well. I need all the basic features. I'm not looking for top of the line. How much $ do you think I should spend on one? I can already get a geforce for free. How about a sound card? So I already have the processor, hard drive, the case, and the grahpics card. And of course a burner and cd-rom drive and the monetor.

Anyone have any good ideas? I am missing anything? A little tired right now.

Thanks,
Will

PS: Thought more people would see it here but move it to Hardware Support if you feel that is needed. :)

Ain't happen. P3 and P4 are 2 different generation of CPUs. You can't use PC133 on the newer P4 Northwood chips. It's is very hard to find the older P4 Will chip match up with a older mobo which accept PC133.

That is an AMD mobo. I have heard good things about this mobo and you won't go wrong with it

I'm an AMD guy. but I would highly recommend Asus. I'm using one know and have had no problems. Also I did quite a bit of research a while back and they seemd to have very good reviews.

Gigabyte is also supposed to be very good. I've never used them personaly but I know serveral people who swear by them.

I'm running a Soyotek Dragon Ultra Black and it is rock solid. It's an AMD board. I have never had good luck with Asus.

For the money, AMD is by far the better processor.
