Can anyone help me with this W2K problem?

In my Temp directory in "Documents and Settings" for my normal non administrator acount I have a two files witch is an entry into my Favorites there are two URLs that is impossible to delete. I have tried to delete them as Administrator both in and out of safe mode and from a dos promt, but I am not succeding. Explorer list both files with a size.

Apparently it came from something making a copy of my users "Documents and Settings" of my Favorites into the Temp directory.

What is the file names, and what type of permissions are set on them ?

Try launching IE and delete temp files from tools options.

Ever had a file that you tried to delete, but it was in use by windows or another program and you couldn't delete it? Here is a freeware that lets you set it to delete the file on windows next boot so you can delete it easily without resorting to using other measures. Works from context menu too.

Thats a great utility for swapping UXTHEME.DLL if you are using xp sp1 with style xp

Hi,

Can depends whether you're running NTFS or FAT32 as NTFS may have that Folder/File protected. If NTFS, I have had success by booting up with NTFS Pro and browsing to the DIR that contains the culprit files and deleting, a real pain. I only use NTFS if security is of paramount importance.

If not NTFS, try this, it's worked for me many times, but it depends which program is locking/watching the file you want to delete.

1. Whatever the file extension is, get another file with the same .ext, but rename it in a different dirrectory so it has the exact name of the file you wish to delete.

2. Copy this renamed file to the directory that contains the culprit file and PASTE it to DELETE/OVERWRITE the culprit file.

It may work, no guarantees though.

i had the same problem with a file that had too long of a file name. Windows wouldn't recognize it as a liget file. So I couldn't Open, Delete, Copy, Cut, or anything

What I did was go Start>Run>cmd

then go to the dirctory and type dir /x

this gives you the short file name like: file~1.jpg

then just type del file~1.jpg

worked good for me
