craftyc, I used MakeCDROM v4.21 from KillerSoftware at /www.makecdrom.com for my 6in1.

..but I've zipped up your Tutorial in rtf format (unedited, credit is deserved!!) + the autorun menu + other tools needed to a friends private ftp. If you mind just let me know and I'll remove it a.s.a.p and just add a link to this thread.

Thanks again and have a very merry xmas!

Thanks khauyeung

I made a nice autorun menu

It seems to me the loader.bin would not have to left in the root of the CD as well as the orginal boot.bin True/False?

Try it see what happens. But I think you're right.

Also I don't think that it is necessary to use the BOOT.BIN file as the Loader.bin files boots from the CD anyway.

I'll try it and get back to you.

khauyeung 25th Dec 01 03:26 PM

pcservicetech, craftyc, you are correct. Loader.bin and Boot.bin do NOT really need to be left on the CD. The -b option of CDIMAGE has already put it at the specified location of the CD during the encoding time. During the boot of your CD, the BIOS will go to this specified location to execute the loader.bin or the boot.bin.

I must admit it was a challenge and I learned alot. Now for those of you who still want a 2n1 CD but are either having bad luck, or just don't have the time, I have created a simple guide to creating a 2n1

Question about the difference of these two version's of XP.
I have installed the Home Edition on a computer, and everything is telling me it is a PRO version. I know how khauyeung talked about the home edition having a pro id card, but what other functionality item's would be different? Is there even really that much differencr between them? If not, what's the point in calling one a "Home edition"?

The links on your page will not work for me although they appear to be correct.

I was able to download them by dropping the filename from the link which took me to a file list. Cheers.

morrison

pcservicetech 26th Dec 01 04:01 PM

My links seem to be right but you only get so much bandwith per day from the host and unforunately my guide is useless without the files. I need a got host for the files if anyone can help.
I could up them to some people if you send me your ftp info as long as it don't get to out of hand.

morrison 26th Dec 01 06:26 PM

Your links [i:7763508e57]are[/i:7763508e57] right! They just don't work when I click on them. However, they download ok if I just use the link after dropping the actual filename from it.

EDIT: Ah, I see you're using Yahoo briefcase now... nevermind.

[b:0859045eb9]pcservicetech[/b:0859045eb9] - thanks for your contribution to this fascinating subject. Much of what is involved is above my head but I've kept khauyeung's and your instructions. I see your files are there now so I guess you've not really given up :) One thing I'm unclear about in your formula - is there a graphical menu of the point and click variety to round the CD off with a professional look? I'm not nit-picking, just asking. You've obviously got a much better grasp of the exercise than I will ever have but, as I have all the ingredients, I hope to find the time to experiment with my own production sometime soon.

Can you give me the password to extract the files.
Thanks:)

Check here to see the differences in Home and Pro

Yes what you installed looks like Pro everywhere you look but it is Home. For example go to Add and Remove Programs>Windows Setup- Internet Information Services isn't there.

This "Corporated Home" sucks it's just plain stupid. If you want Home you could install it from the 6n1-Cracked Home its the OEM Home with reset patch.

Why anyone would want Home if they have a VLK Pro is beyond me.

It was mostly just a cool experiment, that's all, to show that two versions or more can fit on one disk because of the -O switch in CDIMAGE 2.39 and be made Multi-Bootable with diskemu1x.

The neatest use of this whole idea that I can think of would be a Multi Bootable Windows 2000 Pro, Server, Adv.Server CD. If I ever get that damn bored I might do it.

I_R_lectrishun 27th Dec 01 04:29 AM

Thank's for the link, [b:411d0435b3]pcservicetech[/b:411d0435b3] that is exactly what I was looking for. I really have to agree with you on the "why would anybody want home when they have a VLK of Pro". And is was very cool to see how that 6 in 1 was made. It also gave me some insight to how programming stuff work's. Most of the tools and ap's that we used in this project, I had never seen before let alone use them. My first try didn't work right and I found out it was because I didn't use uppercase letter's when changing all the I386's to WPER and WPRO in those two dat files.

Megaduce 27th Dec 01 05:04 AM

I want to make a  3 in 1 Windows 2000 CD and the only thing I don't know now is where to find the group of min. files needed for startup for each as in your wpro folder for XP. Where can I find this info?

Please help if you can, Thanks!

You can obtain the min. files set by starting an install with normal Win2K CD, when it finishes copying the minimum set of files into the $win_nt$.~bt folder of your boot-drive and starts the first reboot, you interrupt and stop the installation. The $win_nt$.~bt folder now contains the minimum set of files, but you have to delete the winnt.sif because it points to the i386 directory of a normal CD which is not applicable to our multi-bootable N-in-1 CD case.

You can apply this method to Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows .Net and the Non-English versions of the same which may have different locals and the additional BOOTFONT.BIN.

Thanx khauyeung for the info I've a question how can I create a boot cd with a menu option so that when it boots it give's Dos menu asking you to make a selection of installing a clean copy or to upgrade selecting a clean install would point Winnt and selection upgrade would point to Winnt32 and applying it to the 3inCD I'm working with my 3in1 win2k copy :D :D :D

khauyeung 29th Dec 01 07:21 PM

Magaduce, due to the fact that M$'s UPGRADE routine (from a CD) will search the default i386 folder of your CD, it cannot be applicable to our N-in-1 CD since all of our source directories (i386) have been moved down one level or have been redirected. If you really need to perform an upgrade, you do not do it directly from your N-in-1 CD but you copy the corresponding i386 folder to your hard-drive (or network) and upgrade from there with Advanced Options which then allow you to select the source directory and copy all source file to your hard-drive first.

The diskemu.cmd basically is for a Menu selecting different Boot Images to be load and boot from your CD. It is not designed to run complicated commands unless you include different commands in different images.
