CNN has confirmed that the undersea earthquake off Sumatra and the giant waves it triggered killed more than 155,000 people, and that number is expected to rise. Deaths by country: Indonesia: More than 94,000, according to health ministry. Sri Lanka: 47,062, with more than 16,000 missing. Officials in non-rebel-held areas report 28,255 dead, 16,665 injured, 899,408 without homes, and 5,540 missing. Reports from rebel-controlled areas indicate at least 18,807 killed, 10,000 missing and 600,000 displaced. India: At least 10,000 Thailand: 4,992.Thai prime minister says toll could exceed 8,000. 6,541 are missing, more than 3,000 of them Swedish tourists. Malaysia: 66 Maldives: 82, with 28 missing.
