You are probably talking about pheromones. These are scents released by all mammals to attract mates, and are NOT only released during sex. As a species we have long lost the ability to consciously pick up the scent of pheromones, however there are strong indications that they do have a subconscious effect - for example women who spend a lot of time together in relative isolation will be likely to have synchronised menstrual cycles.

There are many manufacturers of perfumes who claim that they add synthesized pheromones which make you irresistible. They are mostly scams, and the claims that they work are bull-poo. Firstly no one has yet figured out how to isolate human pheromones. Secondly pheromones which people generate or are sensitive to are unique to each individual. What may be a subconscious turn-on for one person, will have no effect on another.

Actually, human pheromones were proven a long time ago, certainly by 1998

The same researcher, Martha McClintock more recently found that a pheromone caused women to be in an elevated mood: Hormonal Behavior 2000 Feb;37(1):57-78, "Psychological state and mood effects of steroidal chemosignals in women and men".

This was one particular pheromone which is human, has been isolated, and does have the same effect on most people.

I've personally found pheromones to work for me. I use Pherone Formula V-5 and D-17X from http://www.pherone.com and they make an amazing difference.

A little note to everyone else searching for this topic:

I recommend being very weary of pseudo-online pharmacies which claims to offer *scientifically proven*, *new and improved*, *ultra super dooper* sprays which make you a chick magnet in a matter of seconds.

For those who can't see past the marketting bullpoop, you may be interested to know that all research on pheromones which that site links to is completely unrelated to the product, and the company is fishy to say the least (no contact phone number, 1 year domain registration via yahoo).

Unless you want to end up paying $75 for a little bottle of urine-tinted water, keep well clear. If you are really desperate for a chick, get a hooker for your $75, at least then your chances are better ;)
