Slipstreamed and compiled corp per instructions, and repair install blows error from CD:
Error: Installation Failed: F:\I386\asms. Error Message : Incorrect function. *** Fatal Error: One of the components that Windows needs to continue setup could not be installed. Incorrect function. *** After it reboots to continue install with the CD out of the drive, it gives the option to use files from another location. Using the slipstreamed directories from the HD(from which the CD was compiled), install continues. Not sure what gives and cannot find this specific error anywhere. |
Probably you had a read-error from your burnt CD depending on a "bad" media or maybe a OC-ed computer. I always install the OS with default settings. Then...afterwards when you are up and running you could start to tweak your settings.

Thanx a lot! works also fine with te German Version! :D :P

I have a few things to try yet, just curious if anyone else had seen this error, or if I'm the lucky one. |
why do i get an eror message when running the update.exe ..... command line. something like "not all the required files are present..." Is there a way of copying the XP CD files to the hard disk? Which files must be present?
|
Take the original unextracted SP1 file and execute using this command:
/s:x:\path where x:\path=drive and full path to directory containing the i386 directory you wish to integrate into. this will re-extract the service pack in a randomly named directory(that will need to be manually deleted later) and integrate automatically. I had that same error also, and the above method worked. What version are you using? Corp? DO? |
Am using corp.
|
it's working so far. I did notice something. It seems that doing this (with the /s:x:\path) results in integration the same way as executing update.exe with the -s:x:\path, only this time the latter worked. When i executed update.exe, was i just repeating things, or is this a different integration than the first one?
|
That command is the same you would use with update.exe to integrate into a directory, there should be no difference, it just extracts the files to a random directory and integrates at the same time.
If you don't mind, let me know the ISO file size after you compile with cdimage, and if you get any errors during install like mine posted previously in this thread. ISO Size: 513 MB (538,687,488 bytes) |
to see some JPEGs regarding this subject just go to hucp://www.windowsxp.nu :D
|
Nevermind, it's working OK now. Burning the ISO with Nero Track-At-Once setting was causing the error, Disc-At-Once cured it.

Just burned my CD using Nero.
However early on during installation, as the installer copies setup files to a temporary subdirectory, I run into this error about the installation unable to read or (find?) file mmcbase.dll. I choose 'retry' to no avail. I wouldn't dare choose 'ignore' and continue knowing that the installation is doomed tofail anyway. It is rather strange because when i manually extract the file mmcbase.dl_ using extract.exe, the file is completely readable. Am i missing something again? My PC is a Pentium 3 933MHz 133MHzFSB. not overclocked. 256 MB SDRAM. DVD-ROM drive on Secondary Master. |
