By moving the modem to a different slot, your irq changed for the modem.
It's more likely that there was a bad slot on the m/b, and moving the modem to another slot fixed it. I haven't heard of moving to another slot changing an IRQ, IRQ's aren't assigned to individual slots. Also by moving it to another slot, the OS saw a new device and might have re-loaded a corrupted driver.

Glad you fixed it. Now slightly offtopic, but dont use:http://www.b1forums.cjb.net/ - use www.betaone.net

the CJB address was a temporary redirect we set up. It will load slightly slower, and has popup adverts.

Thankz for the advice. :D

Before transferring to another slot remove first on the device manager.
so there will be no corrupted driver.
Is this what you mean?I hope its not :D

Moving a card to a different slot is a valid solution for irq problems.

One of many examples of this recommendation, this one from intel :

In addition, a complete system freeze is not a good indication of a corrupt modem driver (or any other device driver) , but rather an irq conflict. :)
