I have to give credit where credit is due.. Children are now brought up with the idea that everything is better faster and flashier. :(

Computers are great, they offer jobs, they offer a oppertunity to meet people around the world. I could not meet ALL of you without the usage of the computer. Computers, when properly implemented, add to the stability to our infrustructure.

Yes.. I agree if the technology is not used properly, the reactions may be horrific.
ie

• Cell phones while driving
  Adolescent obesity, due to sitting at the computer
  ..more..

We all have to try to understand each others culture, and appreciate them for who they are and not because of their computer.. that is something that we need to get away from. I hope I make sence on that..

I know I missed some stuff, but then does not everyone miss out on something, my children will not be able to use 8 tracks and understand why they were important.

Though ALL of our children will be masters of technology and understand it much more then we do now. That is a fact. :) I'm sure that eventually your offspring will come to you and say hi Mom/Dad look at their new computer. IT, and other related geek themes have just began to bloom.

With the creation of peer-peer networks information is now flowing freely between nodes all over the internet, what the INET was originally built for. Respect is key however, you can master the technology, but can you respect or learn to respect it? That is now the question we have to ask? Not whether you can get this file.. but if you will get the information.

Technology is not bad, it just needs to be re-shaped to fit our global society and the other way around. Its a balancing act. Is this a good act to follow? Our children will forage and shape the answer for us.

Oh yes the sixties, in my neighbourhood kids used to get together and play "Star Trek". I was always Nurse Chapel; although really wanted to be Yeoman Janice Rand - she had that "hairdo to die for". I digress, thanks for the trip down memory lane.

PS: How did we ever get by without all of this technology at our fingertips?

We read, used our imagination to play RL games and annoyed the hell out of our parent's when it was raining :P

I hesitate to say this but I'm from 1936. Good days, good memories and one heck of a lot of home-made, cheap fun.

This one always made me laugh. My mom had the reflex to put her arm across my chest when hitting the brakes until I was about 15. :lol: :lol: :lol: She was just so used to doing it that she would forget that I was older and wearing a seat belt by then. ;)

I'm 28 and if ever i'm in the car with her and she does an emergency stop she STILL tries to shove her arm across my chest. I'm 12" taller and out-weigh her by quite a few pounds- one arm isnt going to do much :D

Waves of nostalgia....... (born in '52).

I used to ride my bike all the way across town to visit friends....walked home from school. Now my niece & nephew don't go two blocks from home without they go in a car. Like hothouse flowers. Thing is, this is the way they were raised. I saw it coming on back in the 70's... anyone else remember the urban legend panic about razor blade-laced Halloween candy? Now it's pedophiles on the Internet and anything at all with sharp edges. Zero tolerance.

I'd very much like to understand how my generation, which had a lot of freedom as children, grew up to be such paranoid, overprotective parents.
