I'm not messing around with all that complicated hardware. Its bad enough that Sep wants me to open the thing up and get shocked!. lol. I'm pretty sure its a faulty PSU. I have had this pc for 3 years and my guess its showing signs of age. Probably good idea to replace it anyways, wether a vaccum helps or not. PSU's don't cost all THAT much. I'll just need to take it in to best buy or something. Nothing else in my room turns off on its own, JUST the computer, so that almost proves the PSU is at fault.

Nobody answered my previous question from before: How do i find out how much my current wattage is?

Get your shocks and open it :)

Seriously; open up your box, and your se the PSU. Somewhere on it will be writen how many watts it produces.

Again, vacuming (hovering for some I suppose :)) all openings of the PSU might help!

Well welcome to the World Windows XP and its wonderful new problems.

I have seen events like this frequently enough that you might have a problem like this one described on Technet. By default XP will just reboot but its also maybe possible that it will shutdown.

As far as the wattage goes just buy a 400 watt or better power supply if your going to replace the power supply and you will be fine.
Generally unless your case is filled with gadgets your ok with a 350 watt power supply or sometimes even less but thats pushing the envelope.

Btw cheap power supplies are just that, cheap and bring along lovely BSOD's right along with the cheap price so beware what you replace a power supply with.

Initially I glanced threw this thread too fast, after reviewing your problem I would agree that your power supply needs a new home in the trash can as long as your processor is not overheating.

I think my problem appears to have been that my fan wasn't or isn't working properly. All of a sudden I heard it come on and i realized the previous days the back of my pc was unusually quiet. This isn't the first time its gone off. I suppose a swift tap will put it back in action, right? Anyways, I bet things were overheating and so thats why it shut off.....to protect itself from internal damage. However, if the pc continues to auto-shutoff even with the fan on, I'll know i need a new PSU anyways.
