crooked_letter 6th Dec 02 04:41 AM

just too let you know if its improtant my partitions are
partitions1 {FAT}19038MG
partition2 [NTFS]31MG

should i delete the NTFS (i would know what too do)

Sephiroth 6th Dec 02 05:11 AM

1) boot off of a 98 boot floppy with cdrom support

2) a:\

3) type fdisk

4) navigate through the menu's and delete every partition

5) create new partitions, one primary dos partition, then an extended partition with logical drives if you want multiple partitions

6) reboot

7) boot off the boot floppy again

8) a:\

9) format c:

10) format d: if you made a second partition

11) run smartdrv

12) change to your cd rom drive, cd i386, and run winnt

that should do it :)

5) create new partitions, one primary dos partition, then an extended partition with logical drives if you want multiple partitions

that lost me completely can someone expolain it?

BearCat 6th Dec 02 04:26 PM

@crooked :

When you follow the above steps, this one should be "easy", just follow the instructions on your monitor :)

JacKDynne 6th Dec 02 04:59 PM

Yep, crooked, follow the instructions above, they do work :)

For more info and good explanations (to help you learn it), go here: *http://www.compguystechweb.com/troub...isk/index.html

And here are some step by step FDISK screen replications:

Hope this helps some :)

What a strange partition configuration :o
31MB for NTFS (which supports massive capacities of Hard Disk space) and 19038MB for FAT (which supports a limited capacity of hard disk (can't remember exactly - i think around 64B or something)).

This should be the opposite to be reasonable. But still it is not better either. Should delete all the partitions and make it one partition.

Insert bootable Windows 98 CD or Windows 98 flopppy.
Boot with CDROM support.
A:\cd X: (which is your CDROM)
X:\cd win98
X:\Win98\fdisk

There are four options where you can select by pressing 1, 2, 3, or 4.
4 is to view partition info. Others I can't rememeber, haven't used it for a while :D

Delete Primary Partition. Then you will be warned, it should delete Logical DOS drives first.
Follow the instruction CAREFULLY as BearCat said. JacKDynne's links are pretty much useful as well.
Go back.
Press [3] Delete the Logical partitions. Delete the Primary Partition.
Press 1 to create a Primary Partition.
Do you wish to use the maximum available size for a Primary DOS Partition
and make the partition active (Y/N) ........................[Y]
I think cos it is 20GB HDD, there is nothing much to do with at least 10GB & 10GB HDDs. But still if wanna partition, then simply press [N] and set a % to partitions you need.
