SRV was a god !!! He is one of the reasons I play guitar - I would sit in my room for hours trying to learn his leads ... Saying he was great is an understatement,, he was a god !!
You can find peope who can play SRV but the thing they lack is the fact they can't play like SRV,, he had a style all his own and he can never be matched or imitated. |
1-. Jonh Petrucci (Dream Theatre)
2.- Steve Vai 3.- Yngwie Malmsteen 4.- Joe Satriani 5.- SRV IMHO :P :D  |
I would say there is no such thing as a greatest guitarist, it really is a matter of preference and musical genre.
I noticed most of the posts centered around rock and blues guitarists but let's not forget the other formats..... Andres Segovia comes to mind, one of the most amazing players I have ever heard. There have also been several blue grass pickers out there that would make some of these speed medal guys look like they were playing in slow motion and they are playing on acoustic guitars. I personally was most influenced by Eddie Van Halen. Later, Peace |
Jason Becker
John Petrucci Michael Romeo |
would not say. the best. but one of my favourites
Brian May |
Eric Clapton for me, he played the smoothest music. But then again, Eddie Van Halen knew how to rock.

Randy Rhodes has to be at the top of my list...id have to say that Slash has to tie for first also :)
