what type/model drive is it , I was dealing with WD's , make sure your bios is set to fully auto for drive detection , I always use the CABLE Select jumper position when I have 2 drives on the cable , the Primary/boot drive is on the end of the cable.
Make sure you do not have a limiting jumper connected ,I seem to recall seeing a drive that could be limitet to 36gb by a jumper on the back , dont recall the brand |
its a maxtor 6y200p0. yup set to fully auto, tried with no jumper, tried with slave jumper, tried with cable select jumper, even tried as a single drive, and nothing! I've lost my baby pictures and i'm pissed! I really want it back! :)
Any ideas? like I said I changed that stupid setting in maxblast :( and then it went to not working~ ~PCT |
Below is a link to download the MaxBlast 4 CD from Maxtor. It is bootable and from what I have read you should be able to fix it with that. You should be able to REMOVE DDO with the cd as it's NOT needed in XP.
There is another possibility.....Could it be a corrupt install of WindowsXP that is not allowing you to see the full drive size? Asus has a registry change that others have been told about for this. Just go slow with this thing as you can loose alot if not careful. http://www.maxtor.com/portal/site/Ma...splayEULA=true Thanks Dudelive |
Have a look at maxtors support pages , HERE , to see if you can get any new ideas.

alright, did the maxtor cd thing that dudelive told me to try, and I had to repartition everything from that CD :( how in the world did I manage to make windows show only 30gb available on a 200gb hd is beyond me! however it does work and now I have major space upgrades :) 30gb to 120gb + 200gb, oh yah i'm on it now! :) Thanks everyone for the help

So:
1. Download the Maxblast CD from maxtor.com 2. Burn the ISO in your fav. burner! 3. Pop it in the CD rom tray and reboot (make sure boot to cd is enabled) 4. Run the MaxPower from the CD and create your partitions, and presto, instant success! and FYI PQ PM8 and acronis wouldn't touch it, however I am trying Acronis now and I think I like it better than PM8 anyways! Thanks again for all the help ~PCT |
U should just need this:
http://www.maxtor.com/portal/site/Ma...&downloadID=11 Maxtor's Big Drive Enabler is a one step executable that enables support for drives larger than 137 Gigabytes in Windows 2000 Service Pack 3 and XP Service Pack 1. This utility takes the guess work out of editing the Windows registry. The Big Drive Enabler fixes an operating system limitation. This utility is needed anytime a Hard Disk Drive larger than 137 GB is connected to the motherboard's ATA bus, regardless of any system BIOS that supports 48-bit LBA. |
This may be to late for you to try, but there are several real good recovery programs that are great. You may files that can be recovered if you are patient, especially pictures which are pretty easy to recover.
Thanks Dudelive |
