I have an Antec LAN case (the glossy black model) with a single large whisper quiet fan at the back. 2.8GHZ P4, 1-SATA, 2 IDE 7200rpm Maxtor's, plus DVD and CD burners. Never had temp problems. Best case I ever owned. About ready to install a second SATA drive.

The cpu is running 31C at idle and up to 40C under load. The P4C800 mobo seems to stay at 30.

Second box is a Lian-Li with an Asus AV78X and a 1.8GHZ AMD ship.

hotter. cpu idles at 51C and goes to 55C under load. Mobo 34C

Use the stock cpu mounted fan in both cases.

I am building a new system too.
so far this is what I have:
ThermalTake Lanfire Xaser series VM 2000A _http://www.thermaltake.com/xaserCase/lanfire/vm2000a.htm
Silent PurePower 480w W0010 _http://www.thermaltake.com/purepower/W001011.htm
Plextor 712a DVD Burner _http://www.plextor.com/english/products/712A.htm

I am planning on going with the:
Asus p4p800 delux with a 3.0 or 3.2 prescott chip,
4 gigs of memory,
an nvidia gforce fx 5950
2 serial ata 250 gig hds, 400's would be nice
another dvd drive, probably sony or plextor, Plextor PX-116A Black(can not locate one in the US)
a good sound card
probably 4 7200 rpm 250 gig hd
some bose speakers
a 17 or 19 inch flat panel monitor, LCD
I am also going to use the rounded ide cables, and get a new keyboard and mouse.

Well it should be an awesome system when i get it all together!!

I have a Antec 1080AMG (http://www.antec-inc.com/pro_details...p?ProdID=91082) with 5 Fans and I have to say it is pretty noisy. That water cooling system suggested by unicorn looks pretty cool. So DoG, you don't need to mess around with heaps of power cables for the fans.

Btw, how efficient you think these water cooling systems are? How about a rough idea of temperature drop? (compared to traditional fans). E.g.
At CPU 0%: With Fans: ?? degrees Celcius. With water cooling: ?? degrees Celcius.
At CPU 100%: With Fans: ?? degrees Celcius. With water cooling: ?? degrees Celcius.

~*McoreD*~ (and others):

The Zalman Reserator is a water cooling system built without any fans. There is a pump in the system to move the water. It's totally noiseless, at least until you lean yuor ear against the "water cooling tower" - then you can feel small vibrations and a little noise is heared (or assiciated with the vibrations). t a distance of 2 or 3 feet away noone will notice a sound.
Is it effective? Yes, it beats all fan systems. A high-end traditional water cooling system is more effective. here are some figures:

Code:

AMD 1833 MHz producing a heat effect of 68 W

Silent fans: 52
Ordinary fans: 46
Reserator: 40
High tech water cooling incl fans: 33

AMD 2083 MHz producing a heat effect of 98 W

Silent fans: 61
Ordinary fans: 50
Reserator: 44
High tech water cooling incl fans: 37

AMD 2333 MHz producing a heat effect of 141 W

Silent fans: N/A (can't handle the heat)
Ordinary fans: N/A (can't handle the heat)
Reserator: 51
High tech water cooling incl fans: 42

The figures are taken from a test made 2 years ago I think, Temperatures are measured in degrees Celsius, test moment is after 200 minutes 100% load of the processor, source is:
CODE]http://www.sweclockers.com/html/recension/rec_040314_zalman_reserator.php[/code]

The AMD processors produces lot of heat as you know and I think this test show you that it works allright. As they compared a given amount of heat produced with different systems it is fair enough. The "High tech water cooling system" (my translation) mentioned was an Asetek Antarctica with Waterchill Reservoir.

Dog,

You may want to consider an Antec case. In my experience they are the best in regards to insulating noise.

I am running an AMD with 4 fans in my bedroom and I sleep like a baby.

My Antec is the bronze. The piano black is also VERY quiet
