I don't want to be the first trying that ;)
I'm afraid too :D |
Thread note, here I have merged two threads talking about the same thing.
|
Hmm I would rather not try this but would like to hear about anyone else that has tried this ;)
|
Hmm. This sounds like what Michael did at MichaelsComputers.com to claim he had an exclusive 500GB HHD.

Kinda sounds like "overclocking" your HDD. It'll probably work fine for a while, but it's pushing the drive beyond it's design limits, just like overclocking a CPU. It won't last as long. Drives are getting so cheap nowadays, I don't know if it's worth the risk. Just my $.02

There was a slashdot article about this a while back with some very informative replies.
Basically this method simply corrupts your partition table so it looks like you have two partitions, but both point to the same place, or overlap slightly: Partition 1 ...|---------------------|.... Partition 2 .....|---------------------|.. Needless to say when you write something to either partition, you are playing russian roulete with the data in the other one... If HD companies could double the capacity of their HDs with a software tweak, they would! |
Ah, Zone-MR, now you are boring. Anyone following the links I pointed to could read just that.
